Maritime NYC was founded by Ruth, a communications strategist with 10+ years of brand and PR experience across global consumer and lifestyle companies. Handling Global Communications at Polaroid and North America Communications at Victorinox Swiss Army, Ruth built and executed communications programs for heritage brands with international reach in a constantly evolving global landscape.
What no boardroom taught: the tides of the East River and Hudson River, navigating New York Harbor as a jet ski instructor, and the specific patience required to scuba dive or free dive on one breath. Hours logged in the water, from New York Harbor to the Red Sea, built the fluency that strategy alone cannot replicate.
That lineage runs through generations. As early adopters of the scuba diving world, her grandparents became dive masters in the 1980s. Her grandmother grew up at Fort Monroe, neighbors with the lighthouse keeper, with the coastline the constant from the very beginning. Their life’s work was built on a relationship to the ocean and maritime industry through submarines.
They sailed from Hawaii through the islands of the South Pacific, lived on Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands, with her grandfather crewing a passage from Hawaii to Alaska. The love for the open sea, ocean conservation, exploration, and the maritime world are in Ruth’s blood.
That nautical inheritance, combined with the communications rigor of a decade building brand strategy for global companies, is the perspective Maritime NYC brings to every engagement.
